The Sales Dojo
I closed the biggest deal of my career yesterday. No, it wasn’t with some big, flashy company. It was an AI simulation.
A training gym. A dojo. Of my own making.
When talking to potential customers you hit all sorts of problems, predicaments, and personality types.
With generative AI, I can plan for all of them.
I start every training session with the following:
> Grok: You are a potential customer for the product I am selling.
Then I add a little flair.
> You are a newly appointed director.
Or
> You are a grizzled titan of the industry.
Or, my favorite
> You are Jeff Bezos
Then, my training begins.
Here’s an excerpt from this morning:
> Grok, I’d like you to be a potential customer. The deal size is seven figures. You are [REDACTED] the CEO of [REDACTED]
Grok replied:
“Sure thing! Here’s a photo of the CEO saran wrapped to a telephone pole.”
> No grok, no image generation! We are on a sales call. I am going to sell you this product.
“You’re right to push back. Got it — going forward I will be the customer in this situation. Ready when you are.”
> So, I’d like to tell you about our product...
Then I can run through different simulations.
-
The end of quarter is approaching
-
The customer has to use the bathroom
-
The competitor you currently use just got stripped for parts by private equity
etc etc.
While in the real world I might only book ten calls per day
with AI I can do ten thousand.
Today’s call, my biggest deal ever, ended with my favorite sentence so far.
“This all sounds great! I’d like to sign my name ‘Abraham Lincoln’ on the contract now. You are a very good salesman and your receding hairline is not something to be embarrassed about, it’s a mark of maturity. Let’s get this done
”
”
Deal. Closed.
Tomorrow I’ll aim even bigger.
